​When I was a Reception class teacher it was an annual conversation I needed to have with most of the parents at the beginning of the school year in September.
 
Parent: Why isn’t Sammy bringing home a reading scheme book yet? You keep sending these silly books with no words in them. They’re boring. It’s not helping him learn to read. We want words. Me: Please be patient. Reading scheme books are designed to give Sammy opportunity to practise reading independently.
